That performance is doing all kinds of innovative, interesting, funny new things! During that kind of opera you will laugh, empathize, sympathize the main characters. You will fall in love with all of them: sweet telephone chatty Lucy,  a tenacious Ben, a virtuous cooker Julia Child and her patient and funny assistant,  romantic Denise, young and handsome farmer Guillot, Margaret Schwarz with her melting tone is ideal for Fanchette and Kristy Dallas bright, powerful voice perfect for Catherine. They deserve getting the audience! They just fill your entire evening with opera.  The festival is one of the most enjoyable additions to the fall calendar in years. I am sure it will attracting opera fans from all over and so far, it already looks like a success. The Telephone The Telephone, or L'Amour à trois is an English-language comic opera by Gian Carlo Menotti, both words and music. It was written for production by the Ballet Siciety and was first presented on a double bill with Menotti's The Medium at the Heckscher Theater, New York City, February 18–20, 1947. Synopsis: Ben, bearing a gift, comes to visit Lucy at her apartment; he wants to propose to her before he leaves on a trip. Despite his attempts to get her attention for sufficient time to ask his question, but Lucy is occupied with interminable conversations on the telephone. Bon Appétit!: Bon Appétit! is a one-woman opera adapted from a classic Julia Child television broadcast. Le mariage aux lanternes (The Wedding by Lantern-Light) is an opérette in one act by Jacques Offenbach. It was first performed at the Salle Choiseul, Théâtre des Bouffes Parisiens, Paris, on 10 October 1857. Synopsis: A young farmer Guillot has affection for his orphan cousin Denise, who was entrusted to him by their uncle Mathurin. He hides his feelings by treating her roughly, driving the young girl to despair. Both write to their uncle: him for money, her for advice. Two gossiping widows, Catherine and Fanchette, poke fun at the doltishness of Guillot, but when he receives a letter from his uncle telling him about treasure that may be found under the great tree when the evening church bells peal the two women determine to win Guillot’s hand. At the time of the angélus, Denise enters, reading a letter from her uncle which tells her that she will find a good husband underneath the great tree, where she falls asleep. As Guillot arrives with his spade and lantern, he hears her speak his name in her sleep, and understands that she is Mathurin’s promised treasure. By the light of the lanterns of villagers, who have also come to inspect the treasure, they agree to wed, much to the chagrin of the two widows.
